Ski touring in the Silvretta Alps is a wonderful venture into Tyrolean Austria

i

On the border of Switzerland and Austria on the left bank of the Inn, lie the beautiful glacial alpine ranges, the Silvretta, culminating with Piz Linard at 3411 metres.  But it is other alpine peaks, such as Piz Buin at 3312 metres and Silvrettahorn at 3244 metres, which are frequented more often by ski tourers. The great

suspended glaciers and gentle slopes, that pose no great difficulty, provide a winter trekking paradise.

i

This ski tour is often regarded as an initiation into ski touring in the high mountains because of the easy terrain, however it is still a magnificent journey into a beautiful glacial landscape.

i

The circuit between three very comfortable refuges follows a splendid route through one of the most beautiful regions of the Tyrol. You’ll find the refuges are excellent and, to use the Austrian word, “gemülichkeit” which translates as cozy and comfortable.  Hot showers, even though we have to pay for them, and small comfortable rooms are a luxury from which one never tires.
